Achalasia cardia is a rare condition in which the patient has trouble swallowing. This problem arises when swallowing both liquid and solid food, resulting in chest heaviness, chest pain, regurgitation, and vomiting. A constriction of the lower esophageal sphincter and food stasis above the sphincter level are seen on barium swallow and manometry. An rise in pressure at the LES causes this constriction.
